MRSL: KERIS CONLAY 43 - SSTMI 35
Keris Conlay stunned SSTMI at UPM Rugby Field with a 43-35 victory in the semi final match of the Malaysia Rugby Super League. Tournament favourite SSTMI good run in the MRSL ended by the energetic Keris Conlay players.
Keris Conlay showed an early sign for a strong challenge as they got the first try in the 7th minute through Waisiki Ramatau. Mohd Fairuz Abd Rahman made it 7-0 with the conversion. Mohd Firdaus Abd Manan gave Keris Conlay another try four minutes later, and Mohd Fairuz added on with a penalty in the 16th minute.
SSTMI got a penalty in the 18th minute and Muhamad Faizal Tahir did not make mistake from the spot. Keris Conlay players were not disturbed by the penalty, Jone Marawa Nasalo got another try just a minute later. And they collected more points from a penalty by Mohd Fairuz in the 23rd minute and a try by Etonia Vaqa Saukuru.
SSTMI finally found the right approach against the runaway opponent. A try by Mohd Nurazman Ramli and Muhamad Faizal's conversion gave them a little hope for a comeback.
SSTMI looked more organized early in the second half. An early penalty after the break by Muhamad Faizal raised their confidence. Mohamad Nur Azri Azmi pumped in more motivation to the SSTMI players when he tried in the 44th minute, before Muhamad Faizal scored on the conversion.
However, Keris Conlay responded to the rising Tsunami with a try by Jone Marawa in the 47th minute. A 53rd minute try by Mohd Khairul Azhar Md Noor sent SSTMI closer with just three points behind Keris Conlay. But Keris Conlay were quick to get back into the winning mode. Another try and a conversion by Mohd Fairuz were enough to steer the team back into the right track. Even a try by Mohamad Nur Azri could not stop Keris Conlay anymore.
Mohd Fairuz was in the spotlight again as he scored another penalty in the 80th minute to secure a final appearance for his team next week at the UKM Mini Stadium.
