Dr Mahathir also suggested on his blog today that BN could end up losing power in the next general elections because of falling confidence in the current administration.
He pointed out that the conventional wisdom among the public with BN would fall because of issues like former police commando Sirul Azhar Umar’s claim that he was acting under orders in the murder of Mongolian Altantuya.
The former PM also cited the debts of 1MDB as another major issue that could contribute to the BN government’s downfall.
His daughter Marina, who usually steers clear of politics and on commenting on her father, even took to sharing Dr Mahathir’s blog on Facebook today, with the comment “guns blazing.”
“It’s not the first time he’s talking about it. But he’s decided to up the ante,” she wrote in respond to comments from her Facebook friends.
Dr Mahathir expressed disappointment today with the government’s response to the allegations surrounding 1MDB and businessman Jho Low’s alleged involvement.
“The allegations have not been answered except to say they are lies.”
On Sirul, Dr Mahathir said the public wanted answers to the commando’s allegations.
“Aside from Najib saying that Sirul was talking ‘utter rubbish’, no investigations were conducted,” Dr Mahathir wrote in his blog post entitled “Umno and GE14”, referring to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Najib Razak
“This is a human life. It’s very cruel if Sirul dies for following orders,” he added.
Asked at MCA’s open house last February to respond to Sirul’s claim that he had acted under orders when he killed Atantuya in 2006, Najib said it was “utter rubbish”.
Former commando Sirul told news portal Malaysiakini last February that he acted under orders when he and his accomplice, former Chief Inspector Azilah Hadri, shot dead Altantuya and blew the Mongolian model’s body up with explosives.
