KUALA LUMPUR, April 2 — Following up on Malay Mail Online’s article yesterday on the Toyota Camry, the new 2015 Camry comes with very palatable prices — it turns out that there are two variants for the 2.0 Camry variant, namely the 2.0G, which is of higher specifications, and the base model 2.0E.
Prices are as follows:
Camry 2.5L hybrid: RM174, 900.00
Camry 2.0G: RM159, 900.00
Camry 2.0E: RM149, 900.00
(Prices are for individual, private ownership, on-the-road, including GST and insurance, for Peninsula Malaysia.)
The price difference of RM10,000 between the 2.0G and 2.0G variants is seen in the following list of equipment that is present in the 2.0G, but not in the 2.0E

Overall, the new Camry is finally up to par in terms of features compared to its more aggressive Korean competitors who have been offering better specifications in order to swing more buyers towards their respective brands. The new 2.0 litre engine for the Camry, together with its newly-developed six-speed automatic transmission is a quantum leap of sorts for the Camry, and this is one of the rare occasions when a new powertrain has been introduced mid-way through the model life cycle. (Just for our readers to note, Mercedes-Benz have been using the practice of putting in the next-generation engines and transmissions in their models towards the end of each model life cycle, which does help in garnering more sales, something very useful to keep a model going, not to mention that it is also a good way to iron out any ‘kinks’ if any in the new powertrain.)
The Camry 2.5 litre hybrid at the moment enjoys some incentive from the Malaysian government for the hybrid system. This is a tried-and-tested system, first introduced in the Camry in 2011, and the rather attractive price (RM174, 900) makes it worth looking at. Besides, UMW Toyota Motor is also offering what it calls an ‘8 year Assurance Package’ for the hybrid battery, which Datuk Ismet Suki, UMWT president explained as “not exactly the same as warranty”, but close to it.
